PIMCORE TO ADOBE INDESIGN BUNDLE FAQS
What is the Pimcore–InDesign integration and what problem does it solve?
It is a two-part solution (Pimcore Bundle + InDesign Plugin) that allows designers to pull product data and assets directly from Pimcore into InDesign. It eliminates manual copy-paste work, reduces errors, and speeds up catalog, leaflet, and brochure production.
Who is this solution intended for?
For companies using Pimcore as a PIM/DAM system and producing marketing materials such as catalogs, leaflets, brochures, or product sheets.
How does the integration differ from other InDesign automation tools?
It connects directly to Pimcore, supports any data model, preserves manual design freedom, and offers real-time updates of product and asset changes, without rigid templates.
Is this a two-way sync between Pimcore and InDesign?
No. It is a one-way sync: Pimcore ➝ InDesign. Designers can still fully edit layouts manually without breaking the link to data.
Does it work with any Pimcore data model or only specific ones?
It works with any Pimcore data model. Admins choose which objects and attributes are exposed to InDesign.
Is an internet connection required for the plugin to work?
Yes, an active connection is required to communicate with the Pimcore instance and fetch data, updates, and assets.
What are the system requirements for the Pimcore Bundle and the InDesign Plugin?
- Pimcore 10+
- Adobe InDesign 2021 or newer
- Stable internet connection
- GraphQL configuration
- Installed Factory Indesign Pimcore bundle on Pimcore instance
How do I install and configure the Pimcore Bundle?
Install the bundle by adding it to Composer and running the composer install. The bundle should auto-register; if it doesn’t, add it manually to config/bundles.php. After installation, run the Pimcore bundle installation command to load all required resources. Once the bundle is active, enter your product key in the configuration screen in Pimcore admin. Finally, configure your GraphQL settings in Pimcore Datahub to choose which objects, fields and assets will be exposed to InDesign.
Can I select which Pimcore objects and attributes are exposed to InDesign?
Yes. The bundle relies on Pimcore Datahub, which provides a configuration interface where admins can create a GraphQL configuration (or use an existing one) and choose which objects, attributes, and DAM folders are exposed.
Does the bundle include user permissions or role management?
The bundle does not manage Pimcore user permissions or roles. Instead, access is controlled entirely through the GraphQL configuration. You can create and use multiple GraphQL configurations, each exposing its own set of classes, objects, and fields. Only the classes, objects, fields and assets explicitly defined in the GraphQL schema are exposed through the plugin, while all other data remains unavailable.
How is data versioning and security handled?
The bundle uses standard Pimcore permissions, SSL communication between Pimcore and the plugin. For versioning, the plugin always fetches the latest published version of an object. Users can revert an object’s version within Pimcore, and GraphQL will reflect the data from the most recently published version.
What if I need a feature that is not included in this solution?
The solution can be extended to match your specific business needs. Feel free to contact us for more information or to assess feasibility.
How do I connect the InDesign Plugin to my Pimcore instance?
By entering the GraphQL endpoint URL and API key. The plugin stores this connection inside the INDD file for future sessions.
What tabs or features are available inside the plugin?
- Products — Exposed Pimcore objects
- Updates — pending content changes and update actions
- Assets — Exposed DAM assets
- Settings — connection settings, check for updates, plugin info
Can designers make manual edits in InDesign without losing synced content?
Yes. Manual edits are always preserved. The plugin updates only the data elements (text/images), without affecting layout, styles, or formatting.
Does the plugin support multiple Pimcore environments?
Yes. Designers can switch between environments by changing connection settings.
How is the licensing structured — per user, per company, or per year?
Licensing is offered as an annual commercial license per organization.
How do updates and new features get delivered?
Each time the plugin is opened, it checks the latest available version and notifies the user if a newer version is available than the one currently installed. Updating to the new version is done manually by downloading the new version of the InDesign plugin or by updating the Pimcore bundle via Composer.
What kind of support or onboarding is included with the license?
Licenses include documentation access, standard support via our Customer Service portal, and assistance with installation and configuration.
